Canva: How to Add and Edit Charts

Usage

Charts help visualize numbers in a simple way. Use them to show your chapter event attendance, membership growth, budget items, or survey results. Canva lets you style charts so they look professional without needing Excel skills.

Steps

Start a new design

1. Open your Canva design and click Elements.

Open the Elements section

2. Search for Chart in the Elements search bar.

Go to Elements → Charts → choose from bar, line, pie, or table

3. Select the type of chart that best represents your data from the Elements panel.

Enter your data manually or paste from a spreadsheet

4. Click the chart and input values directly, or copy-paste from an existing spreadsheet for accuracy.

5. Update labels, values, and categories in the spreadsheet panel.

TIP: If the spreadsheet panel disappears, click the chart again to reveal Edit data.

Customize chart colors to match your brand

6. Adjust the color palette in the chart editing panel to align with your brand or theme.

Add icons, illustrations, and text to explain key points

7. Use Canva’s icons and visuals to highlight insights and keep the infographic engaging

Save as PNG for digital or PDF for print

Use PNG for sharing online or PDF Print if you need a high-resolution, print-ready version.


Things to know

  • Canva charts update instantly when you edit the spreadsheet

  • Pie charts look best with fewer categories

  • Line charts are good for comparing change over time

  • Bar charts are best for comparisons


Best Practices

  • Stick to brand colours for consistency

  • Keep chart text short so it remains readable

  • Avoid 20 categories unless you’re trying to confuse everyone at the board meeting
